Hokama, Vaba score for Chaminade

WAIPIO, HI –Chaminade, coming off two tough losses against BYU-Hawaii on Saturday, faced the SeaWarriors in a Sunday afternoon doubleheader at Central Oahu Regional Park. 
 
Chaminade got the scoring going early, started by Letisha Vaba (Stockton, CA/San Joaquin JC) with a triple in first inning.  Junior shortstop Rayna Strom-Okimoto (Aiea, HI/Aiea High) drove Vaba home to make the score 1-0 CUH in the opening inning.  The Swords could not tack on any more runs, leaving three runners on base in the first. 
 
HPU responded to Chaminade’s score with five runs over the second and third innings going ahead 5-1 and the SeaWarriors didn’t look back, adding six more runs to win 11-1 in six innings.
 
Freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Watanabe (Kula, HI/Baldwin High) had the loss for CUH in game one.
 
Freshman pitcher Brett Aspel (Redondo Beach, CA, Redondo Union) took the loss in game two as HPU won the second contest 9-1. 
 
Freshman Shannan Hokama (Torrance, CA/South) scored the lone Silversword run in the sixth inning, but it wasn’t enough as HPU won via the eight run rule in game two. 
 
Chante Tesoro led the way with four hits over two games for the SeaWarriors. 
 
Chaminade is back in action for a doubleheader against BYU-Hawaii on February 25th in Laie, HI.  First pitch is set for 12:00 PM HT. 
 
The Swords move to 1-5, 0-0 in PWC in defeat, while Hawaii Pacific moves to 4-0 overall.
