Confidence is HIGH

The University of Hawaii at Hilo has shown a knack for hitting the ball and finding pitching when they need as they record another sweep of NCAA Division II West Region foe Cal State Stanislaus, 9-1, 6-2 on the UH Hilo Softball Field.

[Game 1]   [Game 2]

The Vulcans (6-1) opened up leads early in both game with four-runs in the first and second inning of game one and five runs in game two.

That production gave starting pitchers Jessica Pepin and Ashley Nelson some level of comfort on the mound. Pepin tossed a 1-hit TKO in the first game while also picking up a save in game two. Nelson went 4.1 innings in game two giving up two runs on seven hits. Pepin came in and held the Warriors to two hits over the final 2.2 innings.

At the plate, the Vulcans recorded 18 hits resulting in 14 RBI. A third of those hits were doubles.

“It's a good feeling and its sets the bar for us,” said senior shortstop Nicole Alconcel. “We decided we can do it. It isn't as if we weren't hitting and we question if we can do it or not. But because we did it, we know we can.

“Our performance during this series shows that we're coming.”

For the six game series, the Vulcans collected 27 RBI, 17 doubles and three homeruns.

Among the starters, Aisha Sueda led the way with nine hits in 18 at bats with two doubles, and homerun and nine RBI.

Asha Prithviraj batted .353 with a team-leading four doubles.
