Women’s Soccer Closes Season with Road Win

Laie, HI (November 2, 2011) – The Hawai'i Pacific women's soccer team played the role of spoiler in today's season finale win over BYU-Hawai'i. The 2-1 win dealt a crippling blow to the Seasiders postseason prospects.

The match was played in sloppy conditions, but HPU was still able to post two big first half goals. At the 17:48 mark, Sanoe Souza struck first with her fifth goal of the season. In the 30th minute, Liana Gualdarama scored on a deep free kick from the left sideline. It was the first goal of the season for HPU's ace defensemen. The HPU defense made the goals stand up in the second half. With under a minute left in the match, BYU-H scored, but the issue was settled by then.

Carianne Makino posted three saves in her final game as a Sea Warrior.

HPU actually lost the shot battle 16-8, but made its shots count. BYU-H helped out the Sea Warriors by committing seven more fouls.

Head coach Gina Brewer led the Sea Warriors to a 10-5-2 season in her rookie year. HPU's conference record of 7-3-2 currently ranks it third in the PacWest.
