LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The University of Hawai'i's hopes for a Western Athletic Conference title were dashed Friday night with a 1-0 road loss to New Mexico State. The Rainbow Wahine dropped to 4-11-1 and 3-2-1 in the Western Athletic Conference.

UH entered this weekend in second place and just two points behind first-place Utah State. However, the loss, coupled with Utah State's win over San Jose State, put UH out of championship contention. With one match remaining, UH could still possibly finish in second place and earn an all-important bye in next week's WAC Tournament.

After the teams played a scoreless first half, the Aggies (9-7-3, 2-3-2 WAC) broke through in the 52nd minute with a goal by Bree Luhrsen off a Yolanda McMillion assist. That score would hold for the final 38 minutes as the Aggies remained undefeated against UH in three all-time meetings (2-0-1).

The 'Bows, coming off nearly two weeks of inaction,  were out-shot 13-5 by New Mexico State, including 7-2 in shots on goal. The team's road struggles continued as the Rainbow Wahine slid to 0-8 on the mainland this season and extended their school-record losing streak away from home to 11 matches.

UH will now conclude the regular season with a match at Louisiana Tech on Sunday, Oct. 30. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. CT (8:00 a.m. HT).
