The University of Hawaii at Hilo women's golf team is in position to defend their title at the Culturame Women's Golf Classic hosted by George Fox University, at The Reserve Vineyards and Golf Club in the Portland suburb of Aloha, Ore.
 
Freshman Kristen Sawada leads the tournament with a 1-over-par 73. A stroke behind her is a trio of players including last year's champion Dayna Bersamin.

The Vulcans lead the first day after a round of 299. They are followed by George Fox (315), Linfield College (329), Biola College and Northwest Christian College (341), Pacific University (372) and Willamete University (362).
 
Turning in rounds of 76s were the Vulcans' Nyssa Aoki and Kacie Harada. FreshmanErika Morihiro complete the squad and turned in a 78.
